Indiana Massage Therapist Licensing and Certification Requirements

If you've graduated from a massage school in Indiana and are interested in practicing massage therapy as your career, it is important to understand and adhere to the rules and regulations that apply to massage therapists in Indiana.

Indiana Massage Therapy Board - New License Requirements

Successful applicants for a new Massage Therapy license in the state of Indiana will have met the following requirements:
  • New Criminal Background Check from www.L1enrollment.com
  • Complete the Indiana Massage Therapist Licensing application located at http://www.in.gov/pla/2929.htm along with a nonrefundable application fee of $100.00 via check or money order payable to "Indiana Professional Licensing Agency".
  • Submit a recent passport type photograph (approximately two (2) inches by two (2) inches in size)
  • Official transcript of grades must be sent directly from the Massage Therapy program/school from which you obtained your degree to show that you've met all requirements for graduation/completion. Transcripts not sent by the program/school will not be accepted.
If you are a foreign graduate, you must also submit a credentials evaluation. The credential evaluation must be specifically prepared for the State of Indiana by the service listed below:

Proof of completion and passage of an examination must be sent directly from one of the following entities:
  • Massage & Bodywork Licensing Examination (MBLEx)
  • National Certification Examination for Therapeutic Massage (NCETM)
  • National Certification Examination for Therapeutic Massage & Bodywork (NCBTMB)
Renewal:
In Indiana, Massage Therapist certificates expire on May 15th every 4 years and currently there are no continuing education documentation requirements. The next recent renewal date for Massage Therapist certification is May 15, 2017 when your fee of $150 will be due. Renewals are sent via e-mail, so be sure yours is kept up to date with the board.
