Graduation from an approved school with a curriculum consisting of practical and theoretical instruction covering a period of not less than 9 months and a minimum of 750 clock hours. Ohio was the first state to license the practice of massage, in 1916, and defines massage therapy as a "limited branch of the practice of medicine." Applicants must pass the basic science portion of the examination authorized and administered by the board.
